Skiers need to remember their travel insurance
January 24th, 2010 | by admin |Industry experts are warning skiing enthusiasts not to skimp on their travel insurance of they are planning to head to the slopes over the coming months. Figures were compiled by the Ski Club of Great Britain recently, and officials from the group claim that more than one million people from Britain will be heading to the slopes in the months to come. However, the group also claims that worryingly nearly 50 percent of these people will fail to take out ski travel insurance.
The group also stated that out of the people that do take out ski travel insurance cover only around 25 percent will actually read the terms and conditions of the policy to check and see what is actually covered. Whilst some people may think that they are covered for skiing because they have some form of travel insurance in place the Ski Club of Great Britain said that this is not enough, and that it is vital for people to check the terms and conditions to check what is covered.
Those thinking of heading to the slopes need to make sure that they are covered for all of the winter sports that they are intending to take part in, and that their equipment is also covered, as any damage can work out to be very expensive. The dangerous nature of winter sports means that this type of cover can be more costly than standard travel insurance cover, but will save the consumer a fortune if they experience damage or an accident whilst on their holiday.
An official from the Ski Club of Great Britain said: ‘People need to check they are fully covered for all the winter sports they intend to do, whether it is skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating or sledging. We are urging skiers to read the policy small print. Too often, people get caught out because the insurance they bought was unsuitable or inadequate.’
